Today in our prayers we remember Beverly Sroka Porter.

Scripture Reading:    II Corinthians 9:6-15  The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness

My dear friends,

Paul says God will provide us with everything we need for ministry. Indeed, God will increase the harvest.  You may remember me saying that God never calls us to a ministry that we can do without him.  God called the early church do the impossible; spread the Gospel throughout the world.  How could that happen with just a few ordinary folk?  God called them to a ministry they couldn’t do without him.  They succeeded.

It is not much different now.  We still are called to do the impossible. Spread the Gospel, feed the hungry, be peacemakers, and build up the church. The task is daunting, and without God it is impossible.  With God all things are possible.  If our ministry is done under God’s guiding hand we cannot but succeed.

May God continue to lead us.  And may we follow.

God bless you,
Pastor Tom

Today in our prayers we remember Susan, Robert, Bryan and Glenn Pierce.

Scripture Reading:     Matthew 22:36-40   “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”  Jesus said to him,“You shall love the Lord you God, with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all you mind.

This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

My dear friends,

Jesus came into the world to give us the Good News that God loves us, and that God is love.  How did Jesus love us?  He gave his life for us. The Gospel is really simple—God loves you, God loves me.  We should love each other.

The question that naturally follows is, “Do you love God?”  The question after that flows from the first, “Do you love others as you love yourself?” Jesus calls these the central questions of the religious person.  Do I truly love God, others, and self?  Only you can answer.  Only you know your heart.

God go with you,
Pastor Tom

Today in our prayers we remember Robert and Linda Pierce.

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 51:11-13

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of your salvation, and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.

My dear friends,

Joy is central to the spiritual person. Joy comes from a deep center in your heart where Jesus lives. Where there is Jesus there is joy. Joy comes from being loved unconditionally and knowing that nothing - sickness, emotional distress, failure, even death - "will be able to separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:39b

Joy is deeper than happiness.  In fact, joy is deeper than sorrow.  Beneath the sadness of the world, the arms of God sustain and bring joy and hope.

God bless you,
Pastor Tom
