Ministry With Elementary School Youth and Families
- With the Pastor, staff and Sunday School Superintendent and teachers, provide leadership for the creation and maintenance of a calendar of faith formation opportunities involving elementary school youth and their families.
With the Sunday School Superintendent, secure and equip volunteers to lead the “More Time with the Children Sunday School” during Sunday morning worship following the pastor’s time with the children during the service.
With the Vacation Bible School Leader and Sunday School Superintendent provide leadership with VBS faith formation activities.
Encourage and facilitate children and families’ participation in gatherings sponsored by the Delaware Maryland Synod such as the Elementary School Age Youth Gathering and the various family days hosted at Mar-Lu-Ridge.
Ministry With Middle and High School Youth and Families
With the Pastor provide leadership for the creation and maintenance of a calendar of faith formation opportunities involving middle and high school youth and their families.
Lead or arrange for Sunday morning faith formation time with middle and high school youth.
Lead or arrange bi-weekly Sunday evening gatherings with middle and high school youth and their families alternating between learning and service opportunities.
Encourage and facilitate middle and high school youths’ participation in youth gatherings sponsored by the Delaware Maryland Synod (namely RoadTrip, FreeRide, Transformers). This includes securing administration of the registration process, chaperones, transportation and all other arrangements.
Encourage and facilitate middle and high school youths’ and families participation in congregationally focused faith formation opportunities.
Encourage and facilitate middle and high school youths’ participation in the bi-annual ELCA Youth Gatherings. Use of pre-gathering resources desirable.
Encourage and facilitate engagement with youth of other congregations on the Broadneck Peninsula.
In collaboration with the youth, coordinate and conduct fundraising as needed to help supplement congregational support of faith formation opportunities.
Ensure that the Gloria Dei! Child Protection Policy is observed in all elementary, middle and high school aged activities.
Ministry With Adults
With the Pastor and lay Bible study leaders, provide leadership for the creation and maintenance of a calendar of faith formation opportunities involving young and older adults particularly around Bible study.
Hours
The position allows great flexibility in hours which include evenings and weekends. The anticipated hours include Sunday mornings, from 9 am to noon and 5:30 to 7:30 pm on youth group nights. In addition, some Sunday afternoon, weeknight or Saturday events, and possibly Wednesday evenings as planned are possibilities. Office and study/preparation hours may be spent remotely.
Understanding that weekend retreats require more than 10 hours on those weeks, the Pastor will discuss with the Director reasonable time off to compensate for the additional hours worked during those events.

Now hiring for the position of Director of Faith Formation.
Position Purpose
The Director of Faith Formation provides staff leadership for faith formation for all ages with elementary, middle, and high school youth and their families being the primary focus. Leadership in faith formation experiences focused on young and older adults is a secondary focus of the position. The Director of Faith Formation is assumed to be a confirmed Lutheran, called by God and equipped with a passion to reach out to others and to and guide them into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
General Duties
- Exemplify Christian ethics and lifestyle, setting a positive example in actions, speech, and interpersonal relationships both within the congregation and with the community.
- Build relationships with all members of the congregation with a focus on children, youth, their families and young adults through in-person get togethers, phone-email-social media presence, and others ways as arise.
- In all activities, share knowledge of God’s love for us and various calls to us as known in Scripture, prayer, and this family in faith thereby helping all to grow in relationship with God and with one another.
- Pray regularly for the children, youth, young adults and their families, and all members of the congregation.
- Participate in worship and in the life of the congregation as available.
- Meet with the Pastor, staff and volunteers for planning and coordination.
Administrative Expectations
Through the Council Education Liaison, provide monthly updates for the Congregational Council summarizing faith formation activities.
Provide a year-end summary for the Annual Congregational Report summarizing faith formation activities.
Manage the disbursement of budgeted funds for elementary, middle/high school youth and adult faith formation within the guidelines of the approved budget and in adherence with the financial policies of the church.
Maintain records and information as needed for future planning.
Communicate with the congregation by making announcements during church services regarding faith formation opportunities, timely submission of material for the bulletin and newsletter, and by the use of appropriate social media outlets.
Qualifications
A sense of call to the ministry of faith formation for all ages.
Experience in ministry with elementary, middle and high/high school youth, and young adults and in a paid or volunteer capacity, or other ministry experience.
A track record as a positive role model with high standards of personal character and integrity.
An understanding and appreciation of Lutheran theology and a willingness to strive to form faith among all in accordance with it, Scripture and the Holy Spirit.
Strong organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to organize, plan and manage multiple activities and priorities across the programs.
Excellent communication skills. Ability to lead both small and large group activities.
Ability to identify and develop methods and activities of interest to engage each of the distinct groups, by age and demography.
Basic computer skills, ability to use MS Office and e-mail.
Knowledge of First Aid and CPR is desirable, or the willingness to attend training.
Ability to pass a background check.
Accountability
The Director of Faith Formation serves under the direction of the Pastor and the Church Council.
Participate in quarterly “360 degree” scheduled meetings with the pastor and representatives of the council to discuss progress, achievements, challenges, needs, provide feedback, etc.
Salary increases will be based upon the annual performance appraisal, the congregational budget, and any increase in needed services.
Compensation
Compensation, based on 10 hours per week average (some weeks will be more, some will be less), is $15,000.00 annually paid by-weekly.
