Hours

The position requires great flexibility in hours available for work to include evenings and weekends. The anticipated hours include Sunday mornings from 9:00am to noon (Sunday pre and post service responsibilities), and from 6:30pm to 8:30pm during the week to provide leadership to the Adult Choir and Youth Choir groups. In addition, some Sunday afternoon, weeknight or Saturday services may be required, such as Wednesday evening Lenten and Advent, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas Eve and other services at Pastor’s request.

Standards of Performance

  • An annual performance appraisal will be done by the Pastor and/or representatives of the Church Council.

  • Salary increases will be based on the annual performance appraisal along with Congregational budget considerations.

  • Ensure that the Gloria Dei! Child Protection Policy is observed in all elementary, middle and high school aged activities. 

Compensation

  • Salary range is between $17,000 – $21,000 annually based on ability, experience and education.

  • 2 weeks paid vacation is provided.

  • An annual $500 continuing education reimbursement will be provided for taking music master classes/seminars etc.

Now hiring for the position of Director of Music.

Position Purpose

To build, oversee and direct the music program at Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church to include, but not be limited to, providing weekly organ/piano music for scheduled church services, as well as any special services, the development and direction of the adult/youth choirs as well as the support of other music groups.  

General Duties

  • Provide organ and piano music for Sunday morning services or any special services as may be required.

  • Develop, direct and accompany the adult choir to provide music during Sunday services and special services during the church year.

  • Provide support and communicate with other music groups within the church. 

  • Develop, direct and accompany the youth music choir program.

Administrative Expectations

  • Work with the Pastor on liturgy/music planning/rehearsing for weekly service(s) and special services. 

  • Maintain and develop a music library for all musical methods as described above.

  • Provide music for Weddings and Funerals as may be required.

  • Work with the Pastor and the Church Council on brainstorming and implementing   ideas for a broader more in-depth music program as the church grows.

  • Prepare a music article for the monthly newsletter and assist the Parish Administrator on weekly bulletins.

  • Schedule piano/organ tunings as required.
  • Prepare annual music budget for review by Church Council and maintain expense tracking throughout the year.

  • Coordinate absence coverage with Pastor in advance of same.

Qualifications

  • (5 – 7) years’ experience playing the organ and/or piano during weekly services of 100+ congregants.

  • Highly tuned “emotional intelligence” with the ability to follow the Pastor’s lead during services to ensure seamless integration of music and scripted content during services.

  • A deep passion for building the Gloria Dei! music program by bringing exceptional forward looking leadership and personal talent to the position.
